The economy has been redesigned to be more sophisticated, with non-player ships now in direct competition with the player. The game carries over many of the same short-cut keys from previous games, but now the mouse too can be used for functions including menu navigation, target selection, flying and combat. X3 uses a new interface designed to be faster, more user friendly, and compatible with a console controller. There are now markers over game objects such as ships, stations and large asteroids, and each object is selectable by a simple mouse click, or via a keyboard or controller. Egosoft removed non-functional internal cockpit graphics, giving the player a largely unobstructed view of space. As such, ships and stations are noticeably different in size from prior games.

Egosoft ensured a pilot would actually fit in their cockpit, and that a carrier vessel was actually large enough to carry a given number of ships. Ship sizes have been redesigned according to a logical scale. Few contain the internal docking ports of the prior games, instead featuring external docking clamps. The stations are restructured, larger and more detailed. Graphically, Egosoft redesigned everything from scratch. X3 uses a new, specifically developed graphics engine to give highly detailed renders of ships and stations, along with photo-realistic planets and a host of new effects, including lighting, shadow and reflection.

The player is free to go anywhere in the X-Universe at any time and explore, complete plot-related goals or to fulfil their own personal goals. Most ships seen in the game can be bought or captured, and flown by the player. Different ships are available for various tasks: small, fast scouting ships freighters powerful battleships and massive carriers for moving a fleet. The main quest can be postponed or ignored as the player explores the expansive universe and spends the most time in control of a ship, doing tasks of their own choosing. I tried also renaming that file out of the way so it would the system’s DX dll but the same error happened.X3: Reunion incorporates open-ended "sandbox" gameplay. The digital signature matches Microsoft, so it was not modified in any way, just distributed incorrectly in my opinion. The EgoSoft developers for some reason included the d3dx9_37.dll file in their folder, even though they are including the DX runtime that includes _37 (Mar 2008). I assume that the DX/DXGI initialization failed due to the hook that VorpX is placing in DX. If you inspect the threads on the exe, there are two that apparently execute for a while before dying: f4805a42-0.tmp!CreateDXGIFactory2+0x2dd50 X3TC.exe throws a dialog with title “Steam Error” and content “Application load error P:0000065432”. If you open VorpX now and launch the game, it will “try” to initialize, but for me it doesn’t work. This will effectively skip the launcher and avoid the launch loop that happens when VorpX tries to inject itself too early. The game should be running fine, except for the weird aspect ration resolution.ģ) Set on the game properties on steam the following launch options: I’m trying this with the Steam’s X3TC veresion, and here’s the progress that I have made so far:ġ) Edit the res.dat file, and add a line for the 9:10 resolution:Ģ) With VorpX closed, launch the game and select that resolution and windowed mode in the launcher.

Why is the game listed in the supported games list, when it isn’t? So I found some old threads related to X3, but it seems no one was able to properly use VorpX with X3.
